Nokia Lumia 620 vs Lumia 625 vs Lumia 720 – Comparison
Nokia recently announced Lumia 625, the cheapest 4G Nokia phone till date. 4G may not be mainstream in your country yet, and that’s why it’s not the only reason you should consider it before buying a windows phone in this price range.
In which price range? Well, it’ll launch with a price tag of 220 euros, which is precisely the median price of Nokia Lumia 620 and 720 at the time they were announced. So if you’re price conscious, like most population, you know you’re in a dilemma here. To be precise, if you’re planning to buy Lumia 620… Wait! You can get a lot more features by paying a few more bucks. And if you’re planning to get a Lumia 720, consider Nokia Lumia 625 before taking a decision – you might get everything you want(or maybe better)at a cheaper price.
All three smartphones run on Windows Phone 8 operating system, with pretty much the same ‘Lumia’ design. And yes, there are colours – lots of them. There are a few other similarities, but that’s not what we are concerned about. Therefore, we will be talking mostly about the ‘differences’ (i.e. only the relevant information) to help you make a better decision before you buy your next smartphone.
Display and Design
Lumia 625 has a 4.7 inches of display, considerably larger than 620 (3.8 inches) and 720 (4.3 inches) – but larger isn’t always better. Some people may prefer smaller screen, some may not. Also, merely increasing the display size doesn’t make it better – that’s what happened in this case too. All three handsets has a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, which makes the pixel density suffer when the size of display is increased. As a result, the pixel density of Lumia 620 is highest at 245 ppi, following Lumia 625 and 720 at 201 ppi and 217 ppi respectively.
Like I said, all three devices boast the same design (which is great by the way), only the size is different due to obvious reasons. And well, colours. Thus, if you prefer bigger screen, Lumia 625 wins here, otherwise it’s Lumia 620.
Connectivity and Performance
Lumia 625 boasts 4G-LTE support, only in selected countries though. None of its companions has 4G-LTE, in fact it is the cheapest windows phone with LTE support in market today. It also has Bluetooth v4.0 with Low-Energy technology to connect efficiently with devices for measuring heart rate or speed during cycling and running. Though it doesn’t have Magnetometer (AKA compass), but that should not disappoint majority of the population.
Lumia 625 also has a slightly better processor, 1.2 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 while the other two are powered by 1 GHz dual-core only. May disappoint some people, Lumia 625 doesn’t have NFC (Near Field Communication) support, while Lumia 620 and 720 does have NFC. That’s what you sacrifice for 4G-LTE maybe. Though only Lumia 720 supports wireless charging out of all three.
Camera and Power
Nokia Lumia 720 gets the better camera (6.7 megapixels) amongst all three, with Carl Zeiss Tessar Lens, but it can shoot video up to 720p HD only. On the other side, despite of having slightly lower megapixels, Lumia 625 can shoot up to 1080p Full HD videos. The scene is just opposite when it comes to front facing camera though.
Smartphones need power to do all the cool stuff, which of these 3 are the best in terms of battery backup and capacity? Lumia 625 and 720 both are powered by a 2000 mAh irremovable battery, while Lumia 620 has only 1300 mAh. Quite obviously, Lumia 620 loses here with just 14.6 hours on 2G or 9.9 hours on 3G talk-time. Other two are almost at par, but Lumia 625 offers a slightly better battery backup with 23.9 hours on 2G and 15.2 hours on 3G (talk time).
